hi @Starrancher !

You have a good set of pictures :+1:

All are nicely taken by your friend (I guess)

Yeah , he’s really into it . He has way more money than I do . But I also enjoy the visual aspect of the hobby more . Just the relaxation under the night sky and seeing the objects with my own eye through the eyepiece glass is rewarding . I see too much frustration going on when things don’t go right with all his expensive equipment . I do astronomy to relax and enjoy , not to work and get all frustrated .

One of my favourite objects is the Homunculus Nebula. I find it one of the strangest, most intriguing, and beautiful objects in the sky! It is absolutely stunning in my 16-inch telescope… the incredibly bright, and beautifully orange Eta Carinae lying hazily shrouded in the centre, with its two dazzlingly orange lobes orientated SE-NW.

hi and welcome sounds like it would be a nice pic are you into astrophotography?

Hi and thanks for the welcome! The Homunculus would be the most gorgeous image, not least for its incredible location in the Carina Nebula which is remarkably beautiful… a billowing, three-dimensional cloudscape. But alas, I am not an astrophotographer!

Oh wow, that is gorgeous! Your image really captures the astonishing radiance of the central masses bifurcated by that colossal forked dust lane. I never tire of looking at the Carina Nebula, through the telescope and in images. Thanks for posting it!!

Its so hard as I love all DSO’s, but NGC 3532 in Carina is an absolutely amazing open cluster in Carina which is getting plenty of eyepiece time at the moment

Thats a tough call. Hercules, the Ring, any of the southern summer nebula are always on the list, but if i had to pick just one… Its the Orion Nebula

Good choice. I always try to show that to people whenever it’s visible. Most people want to see the showpiece objects anyway, because of the “wow” factor. I have a list of those kinds of objects depending on the time of year. I reserve the faint galaxies for myself.
