Tracking Comets

Tracking Comet C/2023 A3 (Tsuchinshan-ATLAS): Part 1

My 6-inch f/2.2 Celestron Origin is ideal for imaging and tracking comets. On October 18, 2024 I captured Comet C/2023 A3 (Tsuchinshan-ATLAS) from my daughter’s sheep farm which faces west, overlooking the Minas Basin section of the Bay of Fundy in Kempt Shore, Nova Scotia, Canada. I used 10-second exposures for a total integration time of 10 minutes. The comet was in the constellation Serpens with 10.7 visual magnitude star TYC 0371-0094-1 in the tail at the time. I continued to track the comet for the next few months.
