Telescope suggestion for beginners

I have a Celestron Lunar Edition Starsense Explorer 100DX. I’m new to it and would like some advice regarding if its a good one for beginners. I notice objects(started with moon or jupiter) I focus on shakes a lot. Any advice regarding this?

@Amrutha_Dhanakumar it is your basic beginners scope. Kind of on the fast side at F6.6. Its a 4 inch and it will max out around 200x. The eyepieces that come with them will be ok at best. Probably a 10mm and a 25mm for 60 power and 26 power. The 10mm is your high power and 25mm is your low power. You will notice a improvement with better eyepieces. Keep in mind this is just a 4 inch scope. Its good for bright things. The Moon, the planets to a degree and the brightest of the bright in the deep sky. Play with it and enjoy it.

It’s shaky because those budget beginner scopes come with flimsy mounts and tripods . You might be able to fill the tripod legs with thin set mortar . It’s an old trick that has been used to get better stability out of the tripod mount . Of course it’s gonna add weight but if it calms the shakiness down it might be worth it to you .One thing is for certain , no matter how good your optics are , if the scope is bouncing around you’ll never get a quality image . I’d start with trying to get the mount / tripod more stable before spending any more money on the optical chain .
Just my two cents .

@Starrancher i have seen folks tie a weight and hang it with it just touching the ground.

Btw, I placed a huge cantaloupe on the tripod tray and it was a bit better last night  Here’s what i saw :

@Starrancher and @Sweet16 do you use the StarSense app? I had it aligned and working until I had to dismantle everything to take it on a trip and now it wont align during the day or night.
During the day it says “StarSense can’t find the scope position in the daylight. Try it outdoors at night” (although this is how I successfully aligned it the first time)
During the night it says “Finding the telescope. Do not move telescope” and it never stops this.

Any advice?

@Amrutha_Dhanakumar , sorry cant help you with that one. All my scopes are either full on go to or equiped with setting circles. I have never used StarSense before

It very well may be helpful to you . It wouldn’t do me any good since my mounts run on the Meade Autostar system .
