World's Rarest Appulse - Archived by ALPO Astronomy (USA) & ALPO Mars Section Team (USA)

Hello Everyone. My name is Rishabh Sagar.

I am pleased to share a documented observation of a rare celestial event captured on 22 May 2025 from New Delhi, India.

This observation features an extraordinary appulse between Mars and the background star TYC 1402-56-1, with an exceptionally close angular separation of approximately 18 arcseconds. Such proximity makes this one of the closest known Mars–star apparent approaches ever recorded from Earth.

:right_arrow: Compared to all above, this Mars–TYC appulse stands out due to:

  • Deep sky star (not naked-eye visible).
  • Tight angular proximity (18″ is extremely close).
  • Lack of historical precedent in databases.
  • Official archival by ALPO.

This alignment has been submitted to:

  • ALPO Mars Section (Acknowledged in the 2024–25 apparition observer list).
  • :white_check_mark: ALPO Mars Section Archive – 2024–2025 Apparition.

:globe_showing_europe_africa: The rarity of this appulse, the close angular proximity, and the visual pairing of a red planet with a distant yellow-white star makes this a truly once-in-a-lifetime astronomical event.

Rishabh Sagar
