took this earlier in the month and just got around to process it
That is pretty decent. Keep that up
Nice detail . You get the best lighting and shadowing following up and down along close to the terminator line . Watching the Sun rise on mountain peeks and crater edges is really cool if you can spend some hours at the eyepiece .
I can’t look at the moon that long lol
There’s so much to see on it . And it’s different every night . In fact it changes minute by minute . I don’t even use a filter until it gets half lit . But my favorite is from a 1 day old Moon to about a 7 day old Moon .
I look at it from time to time, usually when its less then half. Its my arch enemy… Darn DSO killing night light
Yeah , ya gotta plan your DSO viewing around it . Back when I was in the Riverside Astronomers Association the Star Parties were always on the weekend closest to the New Moon . So ether the Moon didn’t come up until the wee hours of the morning or it would set pretty early . Even at that , it was just a sliver anyway so not much light pollution . When the moon was out in full force I’d just go Lunar and Planetary . So one week for DSOs and the other three for Lunar and Planetary . I lived in the suburbs back then so DSOs were lousy anyway and one weekend a month we went to a nice dark sky site with the club . Once spoiled by the dark site , I wouldn’t even waste my time on DSOs in the backyard . But ,.. watching moon shadow transits and GRS transits on Jupiter were 6 hour sessions in the backyard . Those were great observing sessions . I once caught a triple moon shadow transit . Way cool . Doesn’t happen very often . And I’d grab every GRS transit I could .
Its been forever since i have done any real planetary work. However the gas giants are coming back, and thank you for the reminder… i need to check the moons position for this weekend
There’s a cool app I have on my phone called “Gas Giants” and it shows the moon positions in real time on Jupiter , Saturn , Uranus and Neptune . It also shows when the GRS is coming around on Jupiter and the current ring tilt on Saturn . You can fast forward or rewind times so you can see all the positions in advance to plan your observations accordingly .
It was a free download that I installed on my phone many years ago .
I have Sky Safari on my phone that does the same thing. On my tablet i use the pro version. The apps are great tools
