Looking for good astronomy and space documentaries to watch

Hi everyone,

I’ve recently been trying to find more films and documentaries about astronomy, space exploration, and the night sky. I’m especially interested in ones that are not only visually impressive, but also make you feel the curiosity and wonder behind astronomy.
What I enjoy most is when a film or series shows space not just as something spectacular, but as something that makes you think: about time, distance, discovery, observation, and our place in the universe.
A few titles I have watched or come across so far:
Films I’ve seen so far:
Cosmos: A Spacetime Odyssey
I really liked how this series explains big scientific ideas in a way that feels clear and inspiring. It is easy to follow, but still gives a strong sense of how huge and fascinating the universe is.
Cosmos: A Personal Voyage
This one has a slower and more thoughtful style. Even though it is older, I liked the atmosphere and the way Carl Sagan connects science with curiosity and imagination.
The Farthest: Voyager in Space
This documentary made a strong impression on me. The Voyager missions feel almost poetic because of the distance, time, and the idea of sending something human so far into space.
Apollo 11
I enjoyed the archive footage and the feeling of watching history unfold. It does not feel overly dramatic, but that makes it even more powerful.
The Planets
I liked how this series gives each planet its own story. It made the Solar System feel much more alive and interesting than just a list of facts.
Some of these are more about space missions, while others are more about astronomy, science, and the feeling of discovery. I think I’m most interested in documentaries that combine good information with atmosphere — something that makes you want to go outside and look up at the sky.
While looking for more ideas, I also found these links:

I’d love to hear your recommendations. Are there any astronomy films, documentaries, TV series, or older programs that you think are especially worth watching?
Lesser-known titles and personal favourites would be very welcome.
Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Another astronomical documetary is How The Universe Works.

Back in 2009 The History Channel put out a 14 disc set of DVDs called The Universe . It’s pretty good .

You already have a great list, especially The Farthest and both Cosmos series. If you enjoy documentaries that combine science with a sense of wonder, I would recommend a few others.

For All Mankind is an excellent documentary built entirely from Apollo-era footage and astronaut interviews. It captures both the excitement and the human side of space exploration.

Journey to the Edge of the Universe is another fascinating watch. It takes viewers on a visual journey from Earth to the farthest reaches of the observable universe, giving a real sense of scale and distance.

I would also suggest Into the Universe with Stephen Hawking, which explores black holes, alien life, and cosmic mysteries in an engaging way.

For something more recent, Unknown: Cosmic Time Machine focuses on the James Webb Space Telescope and the incredible discoveries it is making about the early universe.

If you enjoy the philosophical side of astronomy, Carl Sagan’s work remains hard to beat. His ability to connect scientific discovery with humanity’s place in the cosmos is timeless.

Looking forward to seeing other recommendations in this thread—there are always hidden gems in astronomy documentaries.
