ID HELP: Stationary flashing lights spotted by naked eye. Satellites?

I’m new here, so I hope this is an appropriate question. We were out last night just casually stargazing (no telescope) and around 11:30pm near the west horizon, “below” Mars, a brief flash brighter than the stars occurred. It happened again some time later, so we recorded the time between flashes in case it was happening at regular intervals. ~53 seconds passed between a couple more flashes, then no more.

A couple minutes later, the same thing happened closer to the east horizon, but with 8 second intervals. It stopped after about a minute.

I’ve seen satellites light up and then gradually dim as they go across the sky before, but never stationary lights like this. Anyone have ideas??

Man this kind of stuff is always tough to figure out, we didnt see it. It could be anything. I am guessing but maybe you caught a bit of Starlink?

Cosmo,

Any cities on the eastern and western horizons?

No, really just hills and mountains on either side. We’re quite remote!
