How far away is it?

What is the furthest object from the earth that you have seen visually? For me it is the quasar 3C273, in Virgo, at a distance of about 2.4 billion light years. At magnitude 12.9 it is fairly easy to spot from a dark site.

M31 is 2.5 million light years away and can be seen naked eye at a good dark sky site with ease .

I hope to image 3C273 that will be the furthest object I’ll watch using an amateur telescope.
Now, my furthest object I observed is a supernova in a galaxy next to M60 a couple years ago.

That’s a trip . I’ve not gone past the NGC catalog . But then , I’m just into it for the casual visual enjoyment of the Moon , Planets and the nicer DSOs .

3c 273 is on my hit list for this year. I am guessing i have hit targets in the 100 million light year area
