@Starrancher that is the angle gauge. This is my 10 inch dob. It is all manual. Setting circles and the angle gaugge get me on target. In Ohio dew/frost is the big enemy. Heat is the best way to combat it. All of my scopes and finders have dew heaters on then
I thought that what it looked like . Just never seen one in that application before . ![]()
@Starrancher , it works pretty well. I level it to the scope base and then put it on the scope. It gets me pretty close usually
Hey if it works it works . Iâve seen them used to set knife sharpening angles .
Yes the Celestron CPC Deluxe Edge HD telescopes are Go to.
Yes, it is an 8 inch Celestron CPC Edge Deluxe HD SCT.
So whatâs wrong with the stock finder ?
Lol, Iâve just been using the little red dot finder it came withâworks fine for me
Yeah , they work fine .
I use a red dot on my refractorâŚI use it to align the goto mount and then shut it off
I use mostly Naglers for my 10â. For the 6â I use UA Orthoscopic.
All the normal finders I tried I didnât like. Most because the red dot in them was ragingly bright. And I tried a bunch. Going from inexpensive too costly.
I finally went to my gun safe and got a Tasco Red Dot out to try. I have to make an adapicator for mounting it, but on setting 11 it exhibited the finest little red dot. That worked fine for me for a few years.
I wound up using my guide scope and guide camera. Later I mounted a red laser pointer and still use it today on occasion. Mostly when building a new model (Alignment).
I do my Polar Alignment with my Svbony 60mm 106 guide scope and ASI290MM Mini guide camera. But the Svbony 106 can take visual for finding your objects.
I really like the 106. The focuser is really nice to get adjusted in, smooth!
My first guide scope was an Orion 50mm, used it for 11 years before I decided to get the 60mm.
I use a telrad, its a bit bulky but works well
Is Starizona still in Tucson?
According to their website they are
One of the very few brick and mortar telescope stores left in the country . Orange County Telescopes in Southern California is another one but itâs a small store and theyâd probably have to order what you wanted . Gone are the days when you could go to a multitude of shops in a day and actually put your hands on things before youâd buy it .
SoCal used to be a hotbed of telescope shops. I got my first telescope from Cave. My dad drove me there and Tom took my order. When it was ready I went there and picked it up. He checked me out on it, opened a drawer and took three eyepieces out, put them in a box for me and that was it.
My 6â f/8 came with a 6x30, but I upgraded to 8x50. My 10â f/5 came with an 8x50 but I upgraded to a Limicon Superfinder. My 6â refractor didnât have a finder so I adapted an Orion ST80 as a finder for that one.
