Finder Scopes, whats everyone using

I think this year I will be replacing the 9x50. RACI on the ten inch dob with a 10x60 RACI from Stellarvue. Whats everyone using for finders these days?

Ah would love an SVBONEY but finances only let me use a Telrad on my Celestron 6SE SCT at present :joy: :smirk:

I’m using a Lumicon Superfinder with my 10" Newtonian. It’s 12x80. I use an 8x50 for my 6" Newtonian and an Orion ST80 with my 6" refractor.

@bkaras , so how does a finder that big affect the balance of a 10 inch? I have a ST80 too, its the finder for my SCT LOL

It affected it enough that I have to add counterweights to the tube and completely rebalance it.

@bkaras probably more then a couple lol

@bkaras that is what i had to do with my 16 inch when i put the Stellarview 13x80 on it

It was worth it because now I can see many of the DSO’s directly through the finder. It makes star hopping so much easier.

@bkaras i hear what you are saying there. There is no comparison between my 80mm finder and 50mm finder. At some point this year i will get getting a 10x60 for the 10 inch

The 8x50 is good for my 6". It came with a 6x30, which isn’t enough.

Here is the one I am going to try and get this year.

You can get a pretty good 8x50 finder from GSO for about $50.

@bkaras that is what the Stellarvue will be replacing. I want the 60mm objective

GSO makes nice stuff . I have a set of GSO eyepieces and they produce a nice image . I think they made the later versions of the Meade Super Plossls too and those are my main eyepieces for my larger scopes .

The 60mm would be an upgrade for sure . I’m good with the 50mm units that came on my Meade 5” refractor and my 8” Schmidt Newtonian . All I really use them for is doing my 3 star alignment at the beginning of a session . Both mounts are computer go to mounts and the accuracy is great from one end of the sky to the other . Objects will always be in the FOV even at 120x magnification . Gotta love that go to .

I have some GSO stuff for my 6” Newtonian; a 2” low profile focuser and an 8x50 finder. They are both pretty good. I really like the focuser. I might also get one for me 10”.

I dont know if I have any GSO eyepieces if i am being honest. The only ones that might be are my Orion Q70s. Other then that all mine are either Explore Scientific, which are made by JOC, Astro Tech which i think are made by Kuming Optics, and i have several made by Long Perng.
