About the Astrophotography category

Capture the beauty of the cosmos! This is the place to discuss techniques, equipment, and post-processing tips for photographing celestial objects.

Whether you’re imaging planets, deep-sky objects, or wide-field nightscapes, share your experiences, ask for advice, and showcase your best shots.

  • When sharing observing reports, include details like time, location, equipment, and conditions.

  • Astrophotography posts should include exposure settings, processing techniques, and camera/telescope details.

  • Be mindful of light pollution concerns and ethical observing practices.

From beginner-friendly smartphone setups to advanced CCD cameras and image stacking, all skill levels are welcome to learn and improve their craft.

This is a stack of about 338 five-minute sub-frames, for a total exposure time of 28 hours of NGC 891. All processing was done in PixInsight, starting with WBPP. I removed the stars with StarX, applied masks to work on details of the galaxies. I did an annotated version and found not only the NGC galaxies but also 164 PGC galaxies in the frame. I can post that version if folks are interested in seeing that. The scope was a Stellarvue SV102, ASI2400MC Pro camera, IR/UV cut and Optolong L_Quad filters. ZWO AM5N mount, all controlled with an ASI Air Pro computer.
