The Space Store ripped me off (resolved)

That does nothing to address the current situation . I’ve slice supposedly earned another hundred dollar gift card for being a top contributor to the forum and never received it . When I inquired about it , I was told that it was a mistake and it was only supposed to be a fifty dollar card . Seems quite a few “mistakes” are going on . Then there’s the situation with the Messier flash cards which I purchased two sets of and one to give as a gift only to find out after opening them that it’s only one third of the Messier objects and the other two thirds are not even available . I believe Angela Cooley was the email corespondent and I’ve still never heard a thing back from Becky . :person_shrugging:

Okay - I was focused on the refund - I’ll gather more information in my end and direct message you to continue towards the solution

So , I was still told in the email (which I sent you a screenshot of) that I would be seeing a refund (not a credit on a gift card) but a “refund” on my account and it could take up to 10 days to show up . This is “not” what happened . Then I took this screenshot of those Messier Flash Cards . IMHO , this “does not” bring to the unsuspecting purchaser the fact that it’s only a third of the Messier Catalog . I use an iPhone for everything and would need to seriously enlarge this for any details that “should” be disclosed to the “unsuspecting” purchaser . Do you really think I’d order these knowing that I was only getting a third of the Catalog and then order a second set as a gift for somebody too ? Since the other two thirds of the cards came in separate sets and they are “unavailable” , (another little detail left out) , these things should have been donated to a local pub as throw away drink coasters and not “Pawned Off” onto “unsuspecting customers” . It’s too bad that now I’ve been lied to on more than one occasion and also been deceived by less than scrupulous advertising . Had I known those cards were what they are I’d have put the money toward a Planisphere . At least it would have been a useable object instead of the worthless flash cards I got . Now you wanna call it all fair and square ? I spent 25 bucks just for shipping on this stuff . I took a lot of my personal time to try to get this forum going in hopes that it “might” come back to its former glory , earned gift cards that were then reduced to half due to a “clerical” error on your company’s behalf and then that was reneged on .
So bottom line ; Your company sent me tiny T shirts when I ordered XXL , reneged on my “refund” , they reneged on the amount of the gift cards , they sold me two sets of worthless flash cards and you’re good with that ?
I just wanna make sure here .

As I sent this to you in a direct message but you responded here for all to see, here is what I sent to you so everyone is aware of the situation you continue to handle on this thread:

Sent Monday June 23rd:

1. Gift Cards

Below is the summary of the gift cards sent to your account, along with their status:

  • 3/4 (February): $75 gift card – fully spent
  • 4/9 (March): $100 gift card – $23.76 remaining, which reflects the refund discussed last week
  • 5/12 (April): $50 gift card – issued in error, but honored; funds not yet spent
  • 6/9 (May): $25 gift card – funds not yet spent

Per the Forum Points Program, the April score of 90 points fell short of the gift card threshold. While that month didn’t qualify for a reward, we still honored the $50 card as a one-time courtesy.


2. Messier Flash Cards

You purchased Set 1 of our Messier Flashcards, which includes 36 objects out of the full 110-object Messier catalog. This is stated in the product description. Originally, the full series was spread across three separate sets — two have sold out, leaving just Set 1 available.

Since the full series can no longer be completed, we’ve discounted this set by 75% to reflect that.


With the context provided above, your gift cards have been reviewed and accounted for — including one extra card that was mistakenly issued and honored. The Messier Flashcards were correctly described and priced based on the availability of the series.

As mentioned before, I will continue to work with our CS to ensure timely and accurate responses. I stand by our CS team as a large majority of the time we have responded and resolved issues like these in a rapid time with great details. We will use this situation as a learning lesson and improve.

In response to your last response:

  1. It says “…this refund to appear in your account”, it does not specifically say “gift card or bank account”. As I’ve already mentioned, since you used a gift card to pay 4/5 of the total, the system refunded your gift card. It sounds like the only way to remedy this issue is to refund you the amount to your debt card you used so I will begin the process of: removing the funds from the gift card and refund your debt card. More to come on that.

  2. Regarding the Messier cards, the image shown on an iphone shows 36 cards. I’ve already acknowledge that the descriptions can be clearer and we’ll work on that.

  3. Regarding your gift cards, as shown above, you were in fact given more gift cards then you actually earned. You did not earn enough points in April to receive a gift card > we emailed you saying you did (which was incorrect) > we still honored that gift card. So your claim of “earned gift cards that were then reduced to half due to a “clerical” error on your company’s behalf and then that was reneged on” if factually incorrect.

  4. Regarding the 6 small shirts you received, I took a look back at your order receipt and it shows you purchased ‘small’. Regardless of how this happen, I want to reiterate, this ‘mistake’ was corrected and you were sent 6 XXL shirts without charge:

To summarize, not only did we honor the gift card you did not earn, we refunded the money you spent AND we sent you an additional 6 shirts in the size you wanted. I’ll go ahead and take the steps to refund the 2 packs you’re going to donate.

At this point, I’m closing this thread as we’re going in circles. I’ve repeatedly agreed that this situation was 100% not ideal and I’ve taken every step to ensure you were provided (in great detail) what happened, what steps were taken, and provided multiple solutions.

  2. A refund of $6.86 has been initiated to the debt card used.
